Kill Monday Blues Online
Participate in my Social Initiative!

‘Monday Blues’ is such a real thing as I see my friends Tweet and Facebook on sunday nights on how short the weekend was and also how they dread the fact that monday is just a few hours away. Being a working adult I can totally relate to their sentiments. So come monday morning when I commute, I do the normal stuff many people do, pull out my mobile and start checking my Instagram, Path, Facebook and Twitter. (an now even Yammer for office people)

There is a subtle trend that people are posting really negative feelings of how they are dragging their feet to work and how they are already looking forward to the weekend. Just reading stuff like that makes me feel kinda the same too.

So It struck me. How about we share about positive things on monday morning and kill this whole monday blues thing using social media. The week should start AWESOME. The week should start will amazing possibilities. The week should be about our next adventure!

So the one person that stood out for me that is posting really positive stuf is my friend Lucian. He does not rush to work, he takes his time and enjoys Singapore for what it is and takes beautiful pictures on his way to work. You can see his Flickr album here. Really beautiful stuff. His photos are really nice and it really makes me realise that Singapore is indeed an amazingly beautiful and unique place.

So inspired by his photos, I started taking some photos when I bring my kids to school everyday. I leave house when its dark and return when the sun is up, it just so happens that this daily duty I have happens at the magical 30mins window called dawn.

So if you agree with me that ‘Monday Blues’ is really a thing that should not be encouraged, join me to eradicate it. Join me to post positive AWESOME stuff on mondays and let’s encourage one another.

Cooling Off Day

Cooling Off Day by Wild Rice
Cooling Off Day by Wild Rice

Was really looking forward to see Cooling Off Day by W!IL RICE. From the photo above, you will figure out that we manage to get really up close and personal with the cast. My wife said Sistic suggested row “C” and it sounded not too close. Anyway… watched it #likeaboss.

I really did not know what to expect at first. I thought its funny all the way as its by Wild Rice, but it is after all about politics and especially with the recent general elections in 2011, I think there should be some “thoughts” to take home.

It was definitely funny as the cast portrayed very typical Singaporeans that we all can relate to. The mannerisms, the singlish, the typical characters like ah beng (chinese gangster), macik (malay women), chia kantang (with heavy western slang) and more.

I would have to say that most of the performance was kinda serious. There were parts where the cast almost broke into tears. You could see it in their eyes that some of the issues they were acting out was as if it was really affecting them off stage as well. Because some of these issues are so close to our hearts, its hard not to get emotionally engaged. I would say its really really good with a very well balanced view of our political landscape.

It felt that just by knowing more and hearing more views, we all can become more informed and come to our own conclusions. We should not be lead by the media or even the trend on social media to decide for us what is the whole picture. I think its not easy to run a country and its definitely impossible to run it flawlessly.

So, politics. Never thought of politics as an interesting topic, but its hard to not be interested when it affects all of us, it affects the way of life in the place we call home. I’m grateful that the GE2011 brought about much political awareness amongst the general population and I’m eager to find out what happens in our next election. Let’s hope for more constructive comments rather than unconstructive sensationalising online bashings.

We only have one home, where ever it may be. So since we are gonna stick around, why not lets do something for our home. Something, anything.

I’m gonna create a few “social initiatives” on itsmyturn.sg and hope you will support some of these initiatives. I’ll blog about it in my next post.

Sleepy Lullaby Music on Youtube

Making my kid sleep is easier with Youtube. There are only a handful of “nice” videos with calming music.

The Twinkle Twinkle Little Star one above have 87 million views as of Feb 2012. Thats some crazy numbers.

This Row Row Row Your Boat is really beautiful too.

It’s A Big World is also really nice.

If you know of any more, pls share with me. Thanks.

Punggol Promenade and Beach

Clara looking over the pond

It was the Chinese New Year week of 2012 and I took the whole week off. Fetched kids to school each morning and Clara tagged along.

Mommy was also on leave, but she was fast asleep at home, so it was quality time with Clara and I brought her to Punggol Beach just after dropping the kids off at school. I knew the place was getting a makeover and there was even a launch of the new place, so its long overdue for a visit.

Short legs

It was 7:45am, the breeze was still cooling as the sun was slowly rising. The park reminded me of the days in Perth. There is just something with the grass and sand that made the experience different.

Good Morning
Good Morning

Clara was quiet. She hardly uttered a sound. We were communicating with facial expressions.

When she wanted to go in certain direction, she would ask me for my finger. She would then grab it and pull me in the direction she wanted to go.

Boat!
Boat!

There is a nice stadium like sitting area and I can imagine the conversations that could happen on these steps at night. It would be such a nice place to hang out.

Clara sat quietly there while I was taking pictures.

Suddenly a boat sounded its horn and Clara immediately pointed in its direction. We went to see it.

Bug
Bug

During our stroll, she spotted a bug and squatted down to take a closer look. Whenever she squatted down the bug went further away from her, so she got up, took a few steps forward and squatted down again. This went on for a few times, then she gave up. lol.

Track

The path around the whole area was beautiful. It had a wooden deck like feel to it. But when you observe it closely, its actually cement. How cool. According to my architect friend dezzo, the whole promenade is done by Look Architects. It is a 5-kilometre long public waterfront promenade and it goes around the whole of Punggol. I <3 Punggol.

A lady was sitting there by herself and having her breakfast. How peaceful. Later I realised she was actually waiting for her boat.

An old uncle was sweeping up the trash the beach washed up. Slowly bit by bit, he was combing the beach to make her beautiful again. Thank you uncle.

That was the boat that Clara pointed out. A huge one that had what seems like 3 large spherical enclosures.

The next day being saturday, I brought the rest of the family there again in the morning. They loved the place. Clié and Cleo loved the swing the most.

We then discovered that there were shower facilities there too. Its really well designed I think.

That night, we had friends over for dinner and after dinner I brought them to there to see the place. It looks beautiful at night too.
